Conversion.

How much money would I plan on spending to turn my RB 2wd into a bad ass 4wd? I would want to jack it up a bit with bigger wheels and nice rims too. Not a dys. I don't have time or skills.

Re: Conversion.

Roughly $10K-$13K depending on what you want.

Quigley
Quadvan
U-Joint
Agile Offroad
Advanced 4X4
....and a few others......

The above all have plusses and minuses, depending on what you are after....

...the search function is your friend

If you want the "badass look" but don't need 4WD check out Action Van and Camburg Racing

Re: Conversion.

If you want a real answer, you'll need to submit for quotes from the various 4x4 converters. Knowing what style conversion you want will help narrow that down first.

Quigley only does new.

-QuadVan does a full OEM current SuperDuty setup (coil over Dana Super-60)
-UJointOffroad does a '99-'04 SuperDuty setup (leaf springs over Dana 50 or 60)
-Agile OffRoad does an IFS setup using coils over a Dana 50TTB setup
-Advanced also does leaf springs. The axle you get could be from just about anything it seems. I think they do coil conversions too.
-SMB does a leaf springs over a DynaTrack axle with an Atlas T-case. They only do TorqueShift equipped vans, and possibly only newer ones.

I would expect to pay somewhere $10-20,000 depending on the options you want.

Re: Conversion.

With wheels and tires, you are looking at $12k-20k..

Re: Conversion.

I went with Camburg, limited slip diff and 295 AT BFG and are extremely happy, the van drives like a new vehicle and can handle all the off road I have the cojones to try. I also have all the recovery gear just in case.

I think 4x4 is needed if you plan on rock crawling or soft beach sand driving. But I know 4X4 s very popular in this site and I guess at the end is all about how much peace of mind you are willing to pay for.

Bottom line for me, if all you re doing is compacted dirt and ligth river crossing, I put the money on toys....

Re: Conversion.

^^^ ive never even heard of camburg. learn new things on this forum everytime I visit

op, you need to do a search on here. theres lots of info to be found on this site regarding most every conversion available. plus some of those places are people on this forum and have proven to be very helpful members of this little online society.

also keep in mind your location. I see lots of good things about advanced from people who live in that area, but most everyone who doenst and has had work done by the seems to have a bad taste in their mouth from the experience. just calling them left one in my mouth...

and, just a couple i see left off of carringb's list. derek at colorado campervans does 4x4 conversions for the econolines and theres also a small fabshop in idaho falls idaho that will also convert your van. again, location would play a big part for me personally.

and just an fyi, the people who converted my van paid quigley 14k to do the conversion in 2003.

Re: Conversion.

As implied above, not all 4x4 conversions are created equal. IMO, it's better to pay up than apply bandaids later. There's a wealth of info in this thread that makes for interesting reading.

Re: Conversion.

Personally, and maybe it's because that's what I have, but I would go leaf spring. Simpler and stronger. And on a cheaper install like the Quigley there is the death wobble issue. If your going to go coil then you need to talk to Ramsey for sure.

Re: Conversion.

Coils have nothing to do with Death Wobbles - nothing!
