Hi - Just got my 2012 E250 with Quigley 4X4 and want to try riding it on the beach. My LT245/70R-17 Goodyear Wrangler normally inflate to 80psi and looking for recommendation on pressure to air down to ride on loose to hard sand along the beach. My rig is pretty heavy - 9,500# loaded.

On sand you can air way down. Maybe 20-25psi.

For reference,I air down to 40 off road on rocks that can attack sidewalls. The real question is can you air back up before you drive at speed on roads?

2000 7.3 PS Quigley/RB30 with a 6 window poptop.

Don’t go below 25 or 30psi. The guys that use lower psi usually have bead locks too. Heavy vehicles can easily pop the tire off the rim at low psi.

Regardless of tire pressure, be very careful about driving below the high tide line.

About once a year, someone will drive out on Clam Beach here at low tide, hit a soft spot and stick it up to the axles.
By the time they get back with a heavy duty recovery vehicle, the tide has come in and they are stuck with a huge towing bill to drag what is now 3 tons of scrap iron off the beach.

In sand I have run 10 to 15 psi and 25 psi for 100s of miles on dirt roads. I look more at the tire profile when deflated than the tire gauge.

Once in the Sand Dunes at Glamis, I buried my SuperDuty to the axles pulling in my Toy Hauler. I deflated to very low pressure, 10 to 12 psi, and drove it right out. I then drove it 50 or more miles on I8 at 55 MPH to El Centro where I filled the tires. They showed no extra heat and had no damage.

Yup. I've also driven on the highway, at speed, at 10 psi. Rides like a Caddy. That was when I had Open Country A/Ts. I haven't had the M55s in deep dry sand yet, so I've never let air out. I have no doubt they would hold up even better, since the A/Ts are still really just a highway tire.
