2008 Ford E-150 4x4

Seems like a good platform for a home build. Already has a bunch of extras. I emailed him and he said he had an ebay auction with a $20k reserve that didnt get met and open to reasonable offers (trades too). Could be a potentil deal considering it already has 4x4 and Aluminess front and rear.

Has a 4.6l engine though. Pretty small for a 4x4 isn't it?

Hence the quote from the seller "The only reason I am considering getting rid of my labor of love is because the 4.6 motor just isn't quite powerful enough for my needs anymore."

My point is that a 4.6 is probably not sufficient for most anyone's needs in that van. (Although I guess if you keep it empty and don't do a camper build out then maybe it would be tolerable.)

Re: 2008 Ford E-150 4x4

Just out of curiosity, what is it about a 5.4 or smaller that makes it insufficient for 4x4 use? Is it because you put too much load on the motor while trying to get up hills or rough terrain?

I totally disagree, man the best wheeling engine ever is the Jeep 2.5L, little 4banger that cannot be stopped. This is easy, low range, slow as possible trail riding, not horsepowering up 44" boggers for youtube. I went out with a member with a little V8 and a light E150 and I felt like the fat kid on the soccer team- that light engine and van just glided over the trail.

The problem is when you put your GVWR in cabinets and PH in, put gear on top of that, and then hook up a 24' trailer with a pickup and about 1200lbs of furniture. Then the 6.0L is necessary. Whether a V8 is enough if you stop at the full SMB build weight is a matter of opinion, but this van has as next to nothing as you can without being bare metal.

I do think the whole 10mpg thing might be an indication of taxing the engine- for that "little" engine to get such bad gas mileage, to me, says he's taxing it. But it could be a matter of using high octane fuel (more HP, less struggle, better mpg enough to make up for the price).

If someone finds out what he is actually asking please PM me.

Re: 2008 Ford E-150 4x4

4.6 is ~289 cu in.

I used to pull just shy of 3k# of camping gear including the three others in my tribe. Yeah it's small but towing speed is 55 anyway here in Cali-land. I don't have a problem with the 4.6 if you know it's limits.

My Club Wagon gets a wee bit over 20 mpg during the good times. I averaged 15 when towing for camping.

I'm all good.

If I wanted more, I'd get more. It's all proportional.

"I am considering selling...." I would never even consider an ad like this.

Either sell it or not; pick one.

Well, yes and no. He overbuilt not at the beginning but at the end. He morphed into needing more power to haul more toys.

But, imo, there is nothing wrong with the rig as it is. The wooden box didn't need two pic's. Who cares. Firewood to me
