I totally disagree, man the best wheeling engine ever is the Jeep 2.5L, little 4banger that cannot be stopped. This is easy, low range, slow as possible trail riding, not horsepowering up 44" boggers for youtube. I went out with a member with a little V8 and a light E150 and I felt like the fat kid on the soccer team- that light engine and van just glided over the trail.
The problem is when you put your GVWR in cabinets and PH in, put gear on top of that, and then hook up a 24' trailer with a pickup and about 1200lbs of furniture. Then the 6.0L is necessary. Whether a V8 is enough if you stop at the full SMB build weight is a matter of opinion, but this van has as next to nothing as you can without being bare metal.
I do think the whole 10mpg thing might be an indication of taxing the engine- for that "little" engine to get such bad gas mileage, to me, says he's taxing it. But it could be a matter of using high octane fuel (more HP, less struggle, better mpg enough to make up for the price).
If someone finds out what he is actually asking please PM me.
