Re: 2001 Ford e350 Quigley with fixed top 7.3 diesel reduced

So I'm a new to the forum, first post. I'm seriously considering this rig… it's still for sale. The only issue I see is the rust which I can fix with a buddy who has a body shop. I would fly out and drive it back to Colorado 18hrs drive. I would change all the fluids before I leave town. Out side of the rust and I know it's not a SMB but it's a Quigley which is what I want… what do you people think of this rig. It seems like a good buy with a little work. I've have two powerstoke e350's, both 1997's one I put 395K on it before I sold it to a buddy who still has it (running strong) and the other I still have with 265K which I'm gonna keep as a donor vehicle. Please respond with pros and cons. Why or why if this isn't a good deal. Thanks much.

Re: 2001 Ford e350 Quigley with fixed top 7.3 diesel reduced

If you aren't afraid of the rust or the miles I would say go for it. It does say that the awning and roof rack aren't included, but the wheels/tires/bumpers are all nice and the top looks to be well done. Also nice front seats. I'll bet there are no big surprises. Most people just aren't willing to deal with rust like that. I'm not very knowledgeable on diesels but I do know the 7.3 is not toast at 300k if it has been taken care of, and Ford vans will last virtually forever. I would love to see some more pics of the underside since the rust is as bad as it is on the lower body. I would hope it's had a tranny rebuild by now. In fact, I don't know of many vans that have gone 300k without that, especially behind a 7.3. You could arrange to drop by Ujoint on your way back to Colorado and have him look at the underside. He's right on your way and really knows his stuff.

Good luck!

There's an additional thread on this somewhere on CL ads forum, when somebody first posted the link. I think Ramsey (AgileOffroad) made a good point about rust extending to suspension components and the like.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Gonna ask for more detailed pictures of the under carriage to see how she looks. Plus I'm gonna look at a local rig but it doesn't have the pop top. The other rig looks like an old TV/Media van and has some extra goodies. It's not a powerstoke but I've gotta take a look since it's an hour or so away…
