Too good to be true? V10 Airstream "4x4" 1997 - $6400

*** Not mine --- no affiliation ***

Highly skeptical of this one.
Doesn't look like a 4x4 ride height (or correct rear axle width) in the photo.

....but sometimes there's truly a great deal to be had.

1997 Airstream B190 (Ford v10)
V10 Triton Motor with only 97,027 miles
$6400

Top of the line beefy 4x4 that sleeps four with all the comforts of home. Take it in the backwoods, great for hunting/fishing or as a "bug out" vehicle. It's a "head turner" so be ready to be admired! Compare to pricey Sportsmobile and this provides more bells/whistles at a lower price= Great Valu(e)

No interior photos, "too good to be true" price, and it's also on the Pittsburgh Craigslist. I'd be very wary.

Interestingly, a similar van was listed about a month ago in St. Louis for $42,900. I found it by searching the wording.

Wow --- look at that.
Between the highly-suspect price AND the lifted/borrowed wording from another legitimate advertisement....yeah, doesn't look bueno.

At least sharing/posting these "too good to be true" scam listings here on the forum....helps filter them out for those amongst us who are looking/shopping.

Re: Too good to be true? V10 Airstream "4x4" 1997 - $6400

I flagged it yesterday, as well as all the other copies of it I could find, and will continue to do so. These all follow a similar pattern, which means the lazy scammers are not creative enough IMO. I see it everyday on CL. How stupid do they think people are? Obviously the general population is pretty stupid because they keep using the same tactic, so it must be working.

1. Too got to be true price, dead giveaway. The scams are always about 1/4 to 1/3 of actual value. Try searching for something common. 2009 Chevy Tahoe. You'll see results showing a single pic of a Chevy Tahoe for 3259 or some asinine price like that, it's hardly ever an even number. What, do they all use the same formula?
2. One single picture
3. Obviously no knowledge of the vehicle for sale, like listing this as a 4x4 which anyone can tell it isn't. Misspellings everywhere, but hey, that seems to be everywhere on CL. Apparently just a few of us have spell check. Try finding a Ford Excurtion Eddie Bower. I love that one, Eddie Bower. It's printed all over the damn truck!!!
4. NO phone number, just a general CL email option for communication.
5. They will not respond quickly to email. About two days later you will get a response that they are in the military, or a missionary, or have been called to a 3rd world country for an indefinite period and must sell quickly. Next communication, after they think they have one on the hook, will be to start begging you to go through Ebay, Paypal or Western Union to do a sale with no humans involved. "The truck will be delivered to you, but first I need a deposit."
6. Usually on bigger city CL's but not always

Here's an example, one of the copied ads for this same van that I missed. See how it fits the categories. If you're brave, contact them via email. I guarantee what I said above will happen.

Here's one that actually has a phone number: All other criteria the same. Good luck on getting this car for $3k

Agreed. What I'll do if something looks even a little fishy is choose some slightly unique (ahem) phrasing in the ad, and then Google it. Nine times out of ten, this turns up similar CL listings for the same amazing deal in other cities (and I don't mean logical ones, like say you list in Flagstaff and Phoenix; but rather disparate cities spread all over the US).
