1 hour idle = 35 miles
My mechanic recently bought a police cruiser, that hit a deer, to add to his fleet of race cars. He fixed it up and we went for a ride. I asked about the idle time on the car and if he was worried about it. He tapped the trip odometer button a couple of times to bring up the idle hour meter. The car had about 1,400 hours at idle. He said that the police mechanics figure that 1 hour of idle time equals 35 miles for a gas engine. So 1,400 hours (58 days) is 49,000 miles. Not sure it would be the same for a diesel but it would seem that it would be in the same ball park.
Hope some of you find this information useful.
