Mike's 5 Star Tuing chips,,, advice or recommendations?

If you've had any experience with Mike's 5 Star Tuning chips for a Ford 5.4 V8 I'd appreciate hearing about it before I "pull the trigger" and order one [economy]. Mine is a 2003 E-350 EB.
Thanks,
Trent

I have one for my V10, it's awesome. I'm still learning about it, in fact I called just to chat with them the other day, talked to a guy named Scott I think. He was really helpful. I would buy a tuner from those guys for all my cars if they made one. Their service is great, and get my vote for sure.

I don't yet have one of Mike's products but having read the numerous glowing comments (on another forum) about his tunes and customer service I'd not hesitate to buy anything from his shop.

Even after the sale he's willing to tweak things if the initial tune isn't what you need or want.

Can't go wrong IMHO!

Re: Mike's 5 Star Tuing chips,,, advice or recommendations?

Trent, I bought his tuner for my 5.4 You get 3 tunes with it anyway, so if you just want economy you will get two freebies. I chose economy 87, performance 87 and towing. Towing is very weird unless you are towing as it drastically changes all of your shift points. Performance is what I used solely after I messed around with each one for awhile. Economy didn't do much of anything. IIRC I got about 1 mile per gallon difference with the tuner using any of the 3 tunes, so unless you want the 'wake up' of the performance tune I don't know that I would completely recommend spending $500 for one.
If you have a V10, his tuner is said to turn it in to a real beast, but with the 5.4 not so much in my experience.
Keep in mind that if you are really wanting to spend money trying to get more fuel mileage out of a 5.4 then you should probably just buy a Civic to park beside it. If you want more power out of a 5.4 the best solution is to floor it, as they do go pretty well when you rev the hell out of them.
I doubt this is great news to hear, but it is my experience so I hope it helps.

Re: Mike's 5 Star Tuing chips,,, advice or recommendations?

Ive emailed them about a tune for my 6.0 PSD, and got a prompt reply to my question(s).
Then later got word from my friend who has used 5star tunes on his supercharged 5.0 F150 and said it was the most well mannered tune he had used on that truck and said he would highly recommend that I too use a tune from Mike at 5star.

Re: Mike's 5 Star Tuing chips,,, advice or recommendations?

I recently picked up a tuner from Mike for my V10. I've only installed the performance/tow 87 octane tune so far but the van drives much better with the tune than it does stock. More power from a start & firmer shifts. No word on mileage yet but we're hitting the road in September so I should get an idea then if there is any improvement.

Got Mikes 5 Star tune for my 06 v10 quigley van in December and Love it, wish I had got it a 100K ago when it was new. I chirp the 33's if I want to now. I got the 87 econ, 87 power, and 93 tow. I just leave it set on the power setting it's just fun, and mileage wasn't much different.
