PSD Water Pump

Pretty sure my water pump is going out (120k miles). It's leaking from the weep hole on the bottom. Any of you replaced it with a bullet proof version? I'd like to believe they are going to last longer but 7 years/120k miles ain't bad and the BPD pump is about $200 more.

Re: PSD Water Pump

6 months and 4K miles on mine so no opinions for another 10 years! I replaced mine since everything was apart anyway. I see my mechanic charged me way over the current list price for it. I wonder if BPD dropped prices since then?

Re: PSD Water Pump

The BPD water pump is about $100 more than a stock one. After seeing a cracked plastic impeller on a stock one it was an easy decision.

Re: PSD Water Pump

The Bulletproof products are indeed nice with cool anodized colors but seem a bit over-priced. You're paying for R&D of course and possibly USA made but $315 for a waterpump? The plastic impeller does seem like a weak link but the 6.0 is not known for water pump failures.

Anyhow, here's another option that replaces the plastic impeller with a steel one at 1/3rd the cost of the BPD unit with a lifetime warranty. http://www.dieselsite.com/20045july04-2 ... rpump.aspx

Re: PSD Water Pump

Curious that BPD only offers a 1-yr warranty on their bombproof water pump. Their limited warranty on their much touted FICM is one reason I went with FICMrepair.com when my FICM started failing. For the same price I got upgraded components, the logic side checked for issues, as well as a $140 Atlas tune.

I suspect they will take care of the consumer if and when stuff goes bad but if it's so bulletproof why not just stand behind the product from the get go?

Re: PSD Water Pump

Ended up needing a new radiator. Plastic side tank/gasket developed a leak at one of the pinch points. Remember when radiators could be brazed? Not anymore, just toss it in the trash and get a new one. My 1943 Jeep still has the original radiator!

Also had them replace the water pump with a BP version while they were there.

Did you also go with the BPD aluminum radiator or just go OEM?

BPD doesn't make an aluminum replacement for the e-series, only f-series. I couldn't find anyone who sells an all aluminum direct replacement radiator.

I was looking at this one. I think they may even make the one for BPD. Found it on the diesel forums.
