Places to add a water & oil thermister on a 6.0 PSD
I want to add oil and water temp gauges to my 6.0 and am wondering if there are any spots that are plugged that a gauge sensor can be installed. One thing I noticed was that when a heater hose popped off, the Ford water temp gauge never alerted me of hot water temps. Of course when it popped off it was obvious but if I lost a hose on the Espar, I might loose water and never see it quickly. More importantly I also want to compare oil to water temps for EGR purposes. So can someone suggest the best places to install the thermistors? I'd rather use an existing port than drill and tap.
Thanks for any help.

Is there any reason you don't want to use the Scan Gauge to do this? Lots of talk about this in quite a few threads. Just plug into your OBDI

Had one for years but prefer something I can see better. I'll still use the scan gauge for other parameters.

Ultraguage has an audible alarm that you can configure for any of the gauges. There might be other ODBII gauges out there that have alarms also. I'm not a huge fan of adding more sensors and possible sources of failure.
http://www.ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/
UltraGauge features fully configurable alarms for every gauge. Both low and high alarms may be set and the trigger value of each alarm is completely configurable.
UltraGauge continually compares real-time gauge values against configured alarm values. If the alarm thresholds have been exceeded, an audio and visual alarm will occur. The alarm window will display the set value and the current value. While the alarm is occurring, the particular alarm may be easily suspended and will no longer trigger for the remainder of the current driving cycle.
The alarm siren may also be disabled to provide only visual alarms. Alarms may also be globally disabled so that both visual and audible alarms are disabled.
An alarm may also be assigned to trouble codes or pending codes. Should a trouble code or pending code become posted while driving, an alarm immediately occurs. This can aid in the diagnosis of intermittent problems.

I did see a note in their knowledge base that said, "Ford Diesels are not supported" re: Ultra Gauge

Re: Places to add a water & oil thermister on a 6.0 PSD
I've had an Ultra Gauge for about a year. Mostly, I like it. It looks nicer than the ScanGauge, can show a ton of info on one screen, and is small.
It is mostly compatible with my 6.0. The only thing it won't do is show instant MPG on Ford diesels, which I don't really care about.
It will not show EOT on any car, AFAIK. For that reason alone, I may get a ScanGauge to replace it.

Re: Places to add a water & oil thermister on a 6.0 PSD
A while back I picked up an inexpensive Bluetooth OBD II dongle, and downloaded the Torque Pro app for my tablet. Haven't spent much time playing with it yet, but it seems promising (you would have to disconnect your ScanGauge). If you have a large screen phone or a tablet, you can easily see any number of gauges that you can configure. Between the dongle, and the app, I'm into this for less than $20, beyond the cost of the tablet that I already own.

Here are some thumbnail pics taken from the app pagg on the Google Play store, so they're not specific to a Ford 6.0L. Click to enlarge.

Re: Places to add a water & oil thermister on a 6.0 PSD
Sorry but I've had the gauges for several years now and prefer them over LCD type screens. OBDI port is occupied and besides I want standalone thermistors otherwise I would have just used a piggy backed scangauge. Can't use pillar mounts, dash is full, and I have a Garmin taking up space below the pillar. The computer thing is cool but I don't want to leave my Toughbook in the van 24-7. Great backup though. I have a side by side 2 gauge pod that looks stock and that will go on the dash towards the windshield under the rearview mirror. Will be easy to mount and wire the gauges but I'm still looking where to mount the sensors. The gauges are for delta measurements between EOT and EWT but after having the Ford and Scangauge fail me during the water temp issue I'm hoping the water sensor can be place in a better spot than the Ford sensor. I might just have Zilstra's do the job.
Cool factor IMO trumps anyway as in Zeta's rig

I'm still very happy with my edge insight. Hard to see in the video but mine displays engine oil temperature, engine coolant temperature, boost, corrected miles per hour, and battery voltage.

Re: Places to add a water & oil thermister on a 6.0 PSD
The Ultra Gauge system is a very nice idea, configurable alarms and the feature that would help catch intermittent DTC's most helpful.
At any rate when/if actual gauges are fitted Auto Meter makes a nice series of over head gauge pods; 2,3 & 4 places. Of course they're not listed as fitting Ford van's but look for p/n 18017: http://www.autometer.com/cat_mountsd...d&mdl=62&gw=11
They arrive in black, can be rattle can painted to match interior.
