7.3L question - EGT temp range?

Didn't see much info listed for the 7.3, mostly just the 6.0 -

My '02 7.3L came with the Edge Tuner/Guage. What is an 'accepted' temp range for EGT's? Living in UT we have our fair share of Mtn passes etc... and I have been keeping it @ 55mph on the bigger highway climbs and the temps will approach @ 1100-1150, on mostly rolling terrain it'll be anywhere from 4-700*

What say y'all?

Thanks A Ton

Re: 7.3L question - EGT temp range?

Alta825,

I have been research this for my 2003 7.3. I am getting a ETG gauge installed soon so I can watch this. I am seeing 1200 as a good top limit. It seems moments over 1200 are ok if brief. Check the Powerstroke forums.

Re: 7.3L question - EGT temp range?

I'm with TexGX. I always keep it at 1200 or less, and honestly rarely let it hit 1200 at all. I try to keep it in the 1100-1150 range at most.

Re: 7.3L question - EGT temp range?

Important to know / specify where the temp probe is located...there is a large difference between temps measured in the exhaust manifold and those taken in the downpipe. Measurement in the down pipe has cooled a great deal (I've read as much as several hundred degrees...though the split varies as temp varies).
Assuming probe is taken in the exhaust manifold my understanding is also roughly 1200* is max for sustained periods.
