Chevy 6.5l engine replacement tool? Quigley crossmember?

I need to remove a dead 6.5l diesel from my 1997 Chevy SMB, and noticed a few interesting things while determining how to go about it.

1.) I think the end of the cherry picker in this video (the last 13 seconds) has a plate that attaches to the front of the PSD they removed.. Or maybe it supports from below like a forklift? Anyone know where I get one of those for myself (I could have the plate machined to grab the front of my engine, but how would it connect to the hoist? Making one seems like a PITA)

Thanks in advance for any input you have for me!

That frontal piece for the crane looks to be home made, albeit very well done. Kinda tough to really tell since that fast forwarded video can't be slowed down or advanced frame-by-frame to get a better look.

I'd bet that shop does this type of work quite frequently.

If such a thing is available off the shelf it would be from OTC or other heavy truck equipment manufacturers.

Sorry to say no idea about your other issue.

On page 4 of this thread on FTE there is a picture of a homemade engine hoist for removing a van engine...

On page 5 is a detailed drawing of the same part.

Thanks guys! The drawing of the homemade adapter will work perfectly, and is totally within my capabilities to produce.

Anyone have an idea of where the pipe came from? I am pretty set on taking it out an replacing it with a little heavier (and prettier rectangle tubing), just curious at this point on whether it came from Quigley or not..

Just a guess.... It looks like it was installed to increase torsional stiffness of the sub-frame. If you cut it out, it should be easy to weld back in.
