Busted in Barstow need fuel pressure gauge

My 2001 e250, 5.4 has made me walk. Literally just a couple of hours from being in the wilderness of Death Valley, I now have a no start condition. We stopped for breakfast and an hour latter, it won't leave the parking lot. Last year I had the same problem, but a new fuel pump solved it or so I thought. With no fuel pressure gauge, I can't tell for sure if that's my problem though. I guess it's a good thing I'm not on a schedule.

Anyway, I suspect the fuel pump relay, but where is it? Sadly, it looks to be soldered to the back of the fuse panel. Fords solution is an entire new, expensive panel. Troubleshooting continues, but I'm open to ideas......

Argh. Better today than tomorrow though.

I have no knowledge, but can get and ship parts if you need them.

You could always disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rail, aim it into a bucket and have someone crank the motor for a few seconds and see if the fuel pump is working.

Of course this could lead to bad things like an engine fire, catching yourself on fire, etc.......have a fire extinguisher ready.

A lot of these vans have a fuel cutoff switch that can trigger in a hard hit or bump... did you check that?
Sorry to hear you're having problems... I was going to wish you luck in your trip report post but didn't want to push my bad luck your way.

Now I will wish you better luck A/T

Any chance it's the starter or relay? Happened to me this fall up in New Hampshire. No start after driving for a bit and shutting it down.

Re: Busted in Barstow need fuel pressure gauge

Is it cranking or is it just dead and not doing anything when you turn the key?

Did you happen to do anything in the passenger side kick panel between the time you turned off your van and the time you tried to start it? Theres that cutoff switch in the passenger kick panel (at least it was there on my 95).

Ditto, same here on my 2004.

Re: Busted in Barstow need fuel pressure gauge

X2 on the No Start vs No Crank question

Assuming its cranking and not starting:

It's pretty unlikely for the fuel pump relay to go out. But its also easy to swap with the the trailer tow relay under the hood in the power distribution box.

When you turn the key to ON, do you heat the fuel pump prime for a second?

Have you tried beating on the fuel tank while somebody else cranks? Nearly all bad fuel pumps can go a few more stats with a good beating.
