6.0 diesel with no power, no codes, no smoke, no ideas
Drove 30 miles of the Mojave Road with a friend and had to bail because his Suburban was shaking itself apart. Drove back to Needles and stopped for an hour. Got back into the van and couldn't OD more than 5 mph. No power, no smoke, boost looks OK on ScanGauge. Hoses look OK.
Stuck here until Monday when mechanics open up unless I can get some ideas. 2006 E350, 6.0 diesel. Changed Both fuel filters 500 miles ago.

So the engine sounds normal? Did you check all fluids? Smell the transmission fluid and see if it smells burnt.

Re: 6.0 diesel with no power, no codes, no smoke, no idea
Sounds like it will only idle.
Does it rev up in neutral?
Maybe a bad throttle or broken wire to the FICM. Maybe a connector shook loose?
The fact that it starts and runs seems to imply nothing major.

Re: 6.0 diesel with no power, no codes, no smoke, no idea
Did your turbo piping blow apart somewhere. After I just did a lot of work on my van, the tubing separated from the rubber connector between the intercooler and the engine intake. Unlike when it has blown before between the turbo and intercooler, it did not make the characteristic whooshing noise, but had absolutely no power. Check out the rubber boot at the output of the intercooler to the first rigid pipe and between the two rigid pipes before the intake.
When it happened to me (luckily only about 100 yards from my shop), it gave very similar symptoms to what you describe.
Good luck,
Phil

Re: 6.0 diesel with no power, no codes, no smoke, no idea
Thanks for all of the quick replies. Turbo piping is intact and I can generate 4 lb boost revving in neutral. Transfer fluid looks/smells good. Engine idles slightly rough. MAF sensor was new 500 miles ago and connector is tight. A year ago a loose MAF connector threw a code. Removed air box and cleaner, all looked good.

Sounds like 1 or more injectors are not working. That can lead to very low power. Is the engine vibrating from misfiring cylinders? Did you add diesel in Needles? Maybe bad fuel. Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: 6.0 diesel with no power, no codes, no smoke, no idea
It does feel like it is not idling or running on all 8. I did add fuel In Needles. Bad fuel was on my list of possibilities. It was several hours after fueling that it started. Wouldn't a bad injector show on the ScanGauge? No water in fuel light but I don't suppose that isn't very sensitive. Preparing to take it 7 miles to the Ford dealer in Bullhead City tomorrow. Question is to try to drive or tow?

If you have AAA or some other emergency tow service, use it. Not that it's necessary, but why risk it?

I agree, don't drive it especially if there is a possibility that you have bad diesel (maybe gas mixed in). Have it towed. A few bucks might save you thousands on a new engine.

Re: 6.0 diesel with no power, no codes, no smoke, no idea
Definitely sounds fuel starved to me. Checking the filters and water separator would be good places to start. There probably are codes pending, but if you can't get far or fast enough, the check engine light won't turn on.
But yes, if you can't find something vary obvious before driving, get it towed. Low fuel pressure can quickly wipe out all your injectors.
