6.0 ECT higher than EOT, problem?
Gents,
I always keep an eye on my EOT and ECT with a Scangauge and have always experienced a normal delta and temp ranges. On Saturday I took a trip of a couple hours and noticed that the ECT was hovering above the EOT which it never does once the engine warms up. Ambient temp was about 60. The engine seemed to be running fine. The EOT seemed to be jumping around a lot more and was lower than it should have been so I feel like that sensor is just going bad. ECT seemed normal. Any thoughts or anyone else experience this?

I have had moments where my scangauge seems to do the same, but they normally are within spec
After a re-start, you should check again.
What are the temps?

We stopped and did a hike for a few hours and on the trip home it was doing the same thing. I noticed it continued on Sunday as well when I ran some errands in the van. I'll drive it again this weekend and see if the same thing happens or if it just "fixes" itself.

Shouldn't your EOT always be hotter than your ECT (after warm-up, and excluding transients, of course)? If that weren't the case, your oil cooler would be an oil heater.
On my van, the ECT is a lot more dynamic and reflects my driving behavior. My ECT generally covers the area between 180 and 215F on any given drive, with typical steady state being 195F. The EOT, on the other hand, takes a lot longer to climb and a lot longer to drop, but it generally stays around 200F +/-5.

I've always experienced exactly what you describe but noticed the change this past weekend, hence my concern. I'm hoping its just a sensor issue.

Once the engine is warmed up the ECT should be below the EOT. The EOT would go higher except for the oil cooler, which uses the engine coolant to cool the oil down. There remains a delta or no cooling could take place.
If you mistyped and meant the EOT is cooler than the ECT, then most likely a sensor is failing.

Thanks Mike, you're right I got it right in the topic heading but wrong in the initial posting. I've edited that for clarification. The ECT was higher than the EOT after the engine was warmed up. For reference the ECT was in the low 190s and the EOT was in the high 180s which is low for my EOT. Thanks for the catch.
