Regulated Fuel Return E350 6.0

Trying to source a kit for a regulated fuel return.

Any anyone here done this?
How did you do your system?
Was it a kit and if so who made it?
Your experience with it?

I rather not try to re-invent the wheel.

Appreciate your insight.

Thanks,

j

Re: Regulated Fuel Return E350 6.0

Do you mean the upgrade to maintain proper fuel pressure?

This kit is commonly called the "Blue Spring" kit. Any Ford dealer carries it, and I recommend purchasing the kit which includes a new O-ring.

FWIW I buy most of my diesel stuff here:

Ask a question about this product

The Driven Diesel Regulated Return Kit for the 03-07 6.0L Powerstroke Super Duty is an important part of the fuel system upgrade process. This kit eliminates the "dead-head" stock fuel rails and provides adjustable fuel pressure capability to the Powerstroke fuel system. This is done by tying the end of each fuel rail together through a Bypass Fuel Pressure Regulator. The Driven Diesel Regulated Return Kit also includes replacement Fuel Feed Lines (from the fuel filter to the cylinder heads) that replace the stock lines and banjo bolts with larger high flow units and eliminate the restrictive check valves.

The primary benefit of this kit is SIGNIFICANTLY increased fuel flow "through" the heads, ensuring that each fuel injector has adequate fuel volume and pressure all the time (no more "Wide Open Throttle Pressure Drop"). If you want increased injector life and less injector noise...particularly if you are installing expensive new injectors (stock or aftermarket), we HIGHLY RECOMMEND this kit to protect your investment!

Below are some of the key features of the Driven Diesel Regulated Return Kits:
• Will Clear Stock and Aftermarket Turbocharger Setups
• No Interference With Intercooler Tubes!
• Will fit BOTH Single and Dual Alternator Engines
• EXCLUSIVE Custom Return Fitting with Integrated Fuel Filter Air Bleed
(Driven Diesel is the ORIGINATOR of the Custom Machined Filter Bowl Fitting!)
• Driven Diesel Custom High Flow Banjo Bolts
• NEW Ford Fuel Bowl Fitting O-Ring Included!
• High Quality FueLab Bypass Fuel Pressure Regulator
• 12ga T-304 Stainless Steel Regulator Mounting Bracket
• Marshall Liquid Filled Fuel Pressure Gauge
• Custom CNC Bent S.S. Hard Lines with High Flow Banjo Fittings
(These are NOT modified stock lines like some of our competitors use!)
• High Quality S.S. Braided Teflon Fuel Lines with BLACK Protective Covering
• Complete Kit with All Necessary Parts and Detailed Instructions
• Special Long Handled 6mm Allen Tool Included!

Note: Use of this kit ELIMINATES the stock fuel pressure regulator assembly completely. You DO NOT need the Ford "Blue Spring" kit when using our Regulated Return Kit!!!

None of the kits I looked at will fit the E-series. Regulator cover is different and the fuel bowl is in a different location. Guess how I found that out? But I was able to rig up a regulated return for my van. Once I get it restarted I'll post some comments and pictures.

Stellar! Thanks Z!

I am guessing I will need all custom cables and custom bracket.

Re: Regulated Fuel Return E350 6.0

ooh, that sounds cool. But it doesn't seem like a performance mod that you will benefit from over the stock system unless you modify the injectors? As I understand it you get more oomph on the top end because the pressure doesn't fall off.

I'm glad I did the blue spring mod. The 6.0 injectors need 55-60 psi to work properly and I'm seeing a steady 65psi whereas before I was 50 and would drop to 45 psi WOT. 45 is getting down toward the danger zone but too high isn't good either.

A fuel pressure gauge would be a great thing for you to invest in if you haven't already.

My understanding is the blues spring kit wears out and this system establishes more even pressure at all injectors. However, this is hotly debated over the diesel forums.

I don't see any reason to crank up the supply pressure on a stock motor beyond the required spec, which the Blue Spring kit seems to do fine. Even if you had to replace the Blue Spring every 3-4 years, it's still WAY cheaper than an aftermarket regulator kit.

It's not about upping the pressure, it's about maintaining the pressure to all the injectors especially the rearmost. The fuel pressure will be regulated after the injectors take their share. I've set mine for 65 PSI. I also like the idea of the fuel recirculating through the heads instead of getting superheated in the heads.

I'm not expecting a performance improvement, but maybe the injectors will last longer.

I also installed an Airdog II for improved filtration. It's supposedly filters down to 2 µm. I got tired of cheesy Ford filter/lift pump that would come apart in my hands every time I changed the element. Who knows if it was even filtering properly.
