Looks like it is time for a new trans... Which one?

It looks like it is time for me to replace the trans in my 2003 7.3 quigley; do any of you guys have a glowing review for one of the high performance rebuilds?
Thanks!

The two with the best reputation.

John Wood Transmission in Holtville, CA

BTS Transmission in Lead Hill, AR

When getting quotes, remember that you have a 2WD transmission with an adapter, not a stock 4x4 transmission.

I think the factory Ford remans are pretty decent, especially the HD version of the 4R100. Maybe not as good as a BTS but definitely more convenient since any dealer can order them.

A factory HD reman also has an advantage if you ever need warranty service. Far easier to find a local Ford dealer.

That said, I love my BTS transmission. I've never driven a rig with a John Wood transmission, so I can't offer any direct comparison.

The other concern is lead time.. When mine needed to be replaced both BTS and Woods were weeks and weeks away from being able to get me one. Ford had one here the next day.

I had my 4R100 (behind a V-10/2WD) gone through by John Wood and nothing but glowing things to say about it.

(I had a smallish problem with a locking ring, but chose to have much of the trans beefed up at the same time.)

Did that happen in the middle of your vacation?

Being that I am in MT and keen to get this thing rolling again during prime camping season, I think I will be going with the 4R100HD. I also like your point on convenience carringb.

Thanks again guys!
