Broke down Alturas ca with speedo problems help

On the way up from la the speedo started to jump around once and while but was ok driving and shifting great. We stopped for some road work and the speedo stopped working and with that it stopped shifting. We replaced the vss the oss and it worked for 5 minute run around the block came back let it idle and went to go again with no speedo.

Need help

Looking for a 2000 cluster for the 7.3 hoping that might be it.

Any help or ideas welcome

The repair shop in town gave me full access to work on the van and can't speak enough of them seeing how loaded they are.

Re: Broke down Alturas ca with speedo problems help

In 2002, our 1990 dodge b250, the speedo did the same.
Turn out to be the speedo in the cluster.
Dodge wanted $990 to rebuilt the head.
Went to the junk yard & got a cluster for $50.
This year my speedo does not work.
Short in the bundle of wires.
So now I use a GPS for a speedo.
Good Luck.

Not sure if this will help or not. Pull the cluster and check the solder joints on the back side of the prongs that the plug wires push on to. The joints should all look bright and shiny with no cracks or graininess. If they are not shiny carefully re solder them. Had to do this on a Dodge Neon. Went from a flakey speedo to fully operational for the cost of some solder and a little time.

All fixed and on the road. It was a plug on top of the motor next to the fuel filter that was not plugged all the in and the alternator wire was just putting enough pressure to make contact.
