Sprinter 3500 towing...

Any experiences towing with a 3500 chassis?

I towed a 2500 lb trailer around last year and my 9700 lb 2012 Sprinter 3500 did excellent.

This year we upgraded to a 3500 lb trailer and would like to fill it up with dirt bikes. Max tow weight is supposed to be around 7000 lbs but combined weight max is a bit over 15000.

What are the thoughts/experiences with towing around the 5000 lb mark at close to the max combined weight?

Re: Sprinter 3500 towing...

Also, the further I dive into the specifics of my Sprinter the more confusing it gets...

The Roadtrek website (I know this is a Sportsmobile thread, sorry) says, 7000lb tow capacity even though after subtracting the GCWR (15250) from actual weight (~9500) you only have left 5750! As well Roadtreks specs webpage says its a class III hitch... websites vary TREMENDOUSLY on what that means, but most say 5000 lbs max.

To complicate things further the Roadtrek specs page says there is 4.10 ratio rear axle, but a build sheet that was given to me for my VIN number says 3.923!

Lastly, most talk about Sprinter type, i.e. NCV3 and 170" wheelbase... and the like. What do I have and where is that written?

Not sure what do believe...

Re: Sprinter 3500 towing...

NCV3 means models in the US starting in 2007 to present. The wheelbase is the distance between the center of the front and rear wheels. I would go with the weight ratings from Mercedes on the drivers door jamb. As you say the limit is from the GCWR, in your case 5750 for the trailer.
