Cabinet lighting

I wanted to make it a little easier to see things in some of the dark nooks of the cabinets. The placement of the cabin lights does very little to shine light into our pantry. So when preparing dinner or looking for a snack in the evening, it can be hard to find what we're looking for. So I thought I would give it some lighting like a refrigerator. When the door opens the light goes on.
Here are some pics:

The mounting plates on the shelf stops.

Shelf stops back in pantry and wires run behind the wall liner. The pantry back covers all the wiring connections so there are on wires visible in the cabinet once the back was reinstalled.

These lights are at the top of the pantry.

The on/off button is in the upper left corner of the door.

I also had a hard time seeing where things were in the underfloor storage at night. The light above the rear door only helped a little. So a put a long LED strip and a rocker switch in an out of the way spot.

The switch and mounting plate.

The mounting bracket to hold the light strip at a 45 degree angle.

View from inside.

Now I can quickly and easily find whatever I need.

I'm very happy how these have turned out so I plan on doing this to a few more cabinets and closets.
Cheers,
John

Re: Cabinet lighting

Your projects always amaze me in how well thought out they are, and how well they're executed. Very nice.

Re: Cabinet lighting

Hey guys, thanks!
Yeah, if I don't have time to go on a trip in our rig, the next best thing for me is to burn a lot of hours doing silly mods like this. It drives my wife crazy. She's always saying "can't you leave well enough alone?" NO!
Any way, this is where I get the smaller lights: http://www.superbrightleds.com/search/l ... l%20White/

The long light strip is something I had left over from a job I had a few years ago, I have no idea where it came from but there are similar ones on that same website.

Cheers,
John

Awesome idea! Might have to do this one, too.

Re: Cabinet lighting

Very cool!

Where did you find power? Did you run all the way up to the engine? Or go off the SMB fuse panel?

I pulled it from the 12 volt outlet below the sink on the right side of this pic.

I then ran it to this switch so I can turn it off at any time and not worry about the door being left open. It was easy to run it into the back of the pantry from here.

Here is a shot of the door activated on/off button. This is connected to the negative because there is a little bit of these wires in the cabinet.

John

Re: Cabinet lighting

Thought I'd give an update on the additional lighting I had installed. I put some in the cabinet under the sink.

And in the drawers.

Here is how I mounted the light in the drawers.

And here is the kill switch, that the back of the drawer box pushes when closed.

This has been a great little mod and is very helpful while keeping the lights down trying not to attract insects.

Cheers,
John
