Best water jugs?

I'm sick of p.o.s. 3 or 5 gal. water jugs with caps with too many parts that leak or vents that leak. Who knows of a jug that will work like it should and will last more than a few trips. Thanks in advance.

Scepter Military Water Containers (MWC). 2.5 gallons, or 5 gallons.

Manufacturer:

Good prices:

Source of similar/identical 5 gallon water can:

Re: Best water jugs?

Thanks for that link Herb. Don't want to hijack the thread but I've been after some of these as well. Does anyone have any experience with the black ones? I'm wondering two things. 1. Do they fade, or if so how bad? 2. Is black a bad idea? I kind of want a dark color to absorb heat and be used for hand/dish washing or possibly a shower/hair wash after a sunny, warm day. I realize most people would want to keep their water as cool as possible but I have a ice water cooler inside for drinking water. I am looking for something more related to cleaning and washing for the back bumper, so the warmer the better.

Re: Best water jugs?

Had the same thought Scotty, so a couple of years ago I picked up a black 2.5 gallon Scepter. Hate to admit it though, I really haven't used it yet to solar heat any water.

Re: Best water jugs?

Thanks for the links. That is just what I was looking for.
I'm sure those black ones would get really hot in the sun. One trick I've used is just to put a black garbage bag over a jug to heat it in the sun. It works well, and then you aren't stuck with a black jug in case you don't want hot water.

I use those blue 5 gal square ones because I can fit two of them on top of the Aluminess box.

I forget the brand, will try and get a picture.

Ok, I think it is this one:

I think 2 of them fit exactly inside the top rails of the Aluminess baja box.

I like the shape of those, but I've probably had a dozen or so over the last 10 years and all of them have spring leaks after a while (not to mention the POS spouts which always crack at the base).

The do have a jerry can style water jug now which is infinitely more durable, except it still has the same spout
