Gas powered furnace
Greetings,
I am looking to install a furnace.
I have a gas engine and I want to power the furnace with one fuel source.
Espar uses diesel. Are they using gas yet?
Labasto Blue Heat may be the one for me.
Any Blue Heat users with some suggestions?
What are the popular gas powered furnaces?
What ones are not good?
Is there such a thing like radiant heat installed in a van floor?
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

gas heater
Zugg,
Espar does offer a gasoline version of the D-4. Check with Greg at www.lubricationspecialist.com or 888-306-4255. He should be able to get you the info you need.
Good Luck!

Hi John,
Do you have an Espar gas powerd furnace?
I will check their website, again!
The link you provided does not work. It reads "service unavailable"
Thanks,
Zugg

The Espar Airtronic 5 has a petrol version that I assume means gasoline since all the others are diesel.

Something to think about. I have the Espar Diesel but … The furnace fuel pump makes a clicking noise that drives me crazy! You won’t (I didn’t) hear it during the demo, but on a quite night, its like water dripping from a faucet. Espar says “too bad, that’s the way it is.” SMB swapped out a pump for me but the noise is still there. The pump is well isolated, but it pulses and sends this clicking noise up the fuel line where it resonates in the cabin. I don’t know if the older models do this or not, but the new model with the altitude compensator does. I love the heater expect for this “feature”. So if all things were equal and the Blue-Heat doesn’t have this Chinese water torture feature…

Hi Charlie,
Thanks for the info. about your Espar furnace. I will not be getting one!
One fuel source is the wat to go, at least for me!
SMB does not install Blue Heat.
I will be getting the unit that uses gas from my main tank.
I will also be using the flate plate water heater, so these two systems will provide a swet setup.

Hi,
After some research, the flat plate water heater is a no go for me.
It costs alot and SMB will not mount it on the inside.
That still makes no sense to me.
My portable propane stove will do the job just fine.

I have the webasto airtop 2000 and I'm very happy with it. It's very quiet, puts out good heat, and runs straight off my gas tank. I did have one problem with it this winter but that was due to installer error (unfortunately i was the installer!). Apparently one of the fuel line connections wasn't quite tight enough and it was letting in some air which caused the heater to stop working after about 2 weeks of daily use. I've tightened them all up now and it's working fine again. I'd definitely recommend one.
The only negative I can think of with webasto is their warranty card says it has to be installed by a certified installer for the warranty to be valid... i haven't tried testing them on that one and hopefully i won't have to. Their tech support has been very helpful anytime I called. Also if you do go with one get the fuel filter for it, it's not included with the kit but their tech support does recommend them.
Both espar and webasto offer gas powered air heaters in the 2000 and 3500 btu range... their websites just don't list all the options. From what i've been able to gather both brands very similar.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for your response.
I will look into the fuel filter for the Blue Heat-Webasto furnace.
I have researched the same model that you have.
Do you have a pop-top, and if so, do you have a deflector and hose to send hot air to the pop-top?
I will be doing winter camping and the tech support say that the c02 will have to be adjusted for high elevations over 5,000'.
Thanks,
Zugg
