Truma Combi availability in USA

Looks like the Truma Combi compact furnace / hot water heater units common in most European camping vans will be coming to the US. According to Truma USA the units are currently in certification testing and assuming all goes well will become available to US customers.

Truma Combi units are small (20 x 18w x 12h inch) combination furnace and hot water heaters with high efficiency (97%) sealed combustion burners. When temperatures drop below freezing they can automatically drain the water boiler but continue to provide air heating. Electrical consumption is also quite efficient at 1.1 amp for air heating and 0.4 amp during the water heat up cycle.

I came across this information because we had been planning an upcoming SMB build on one of the new Transit or Promaster chassis and I had noticed Truma's ads in RV Business trade journal. I contacted them by email and they responded that the Combi was undergoing certification and planned for US introduction. They would not confirm US pricing or availability date until certification is complete.

We ended up purchasing a used Sprinter SMB so we'll have some time to see how the new chassis and equipment options pan out. But if anyone is interested in the Combi for an upcoming build I've forwarded the Truma USA contact information and emails to Paul Meyer at Sportsmobile Texas.

You don't need to heat hot water.

And of course the Brits call it a 'boiler', and it won't boil water either...

Unless you want it hotter. Laws of thermodynamics and all that.

Re: Truma Combi availability in USA

Truma has now announced North American availability and specifications for the Combi gas fired units:

http://www.truma.net/us/en/heating/o...ng-systems.php

The product naming has been modified, perhaps because the American market is unfamiliar with heat output expressed in KW terms?

Combi 4 (4kw/14kbtu) has been renamed to Combi eco
Combi 6 (6kw/20kbtu) is now the Combi comfort

They also offer 'Plus' versions of both units with 120V electrical heating when hookups are available.

Power consumption on these NA certified units has increased slightly over their Euro equivalents but is still very efficient at 1.6 amps average (12v) for combination heating and 0.9amps when firing for water heating alone. Standby consumption isn't listed but was 0.001 amps for the Euro controller.

Pretty impressive to see a high efficiency water/air heating system in a sealed combustion unit just slightly larger than the water heater alone in my SMB unit.

Wow, this looks pretty stellar, I wonder if SMB will start using them at some point.

Re: Truma Combi availability in USA

I haven't seen any US pricing yet. Winnebago is including the Combi in their Promaster based Travato but it's buried as standard equipment in the RV list price.

UK sites sell the Combi 4 for about 1400 British Pounds including VAT. Subtracting out VAT and converting to US dollars yields an equivalent of about $1830. It will be interesting to see where the US price lands.
