Coleman 9000 Low Profile AC

Has anyone installed this unit on a Sprinter or other SMB? Looks like a good option and will run on the Honda 2000 generator. Might even work on a PH top on an EB van.

Re: Coleman 9000 Low Profile AC

The problem is that SMB specifically warns against cutting any sort of hole in the PH roof, either for AC or even a fan/vent. I guess because of the plywood ribs that are part of the fiberglass top. To me this is a big design flaw in the PH. My #1 complaint with sleeping in the SMB is that it gets hot (we sleep "downstairs" and my son is up in the PH bed). Starcool helps a bit, but not much. 12v portable fans help, too, but boy I'd love a rooftop AC unit!

I did, on a CCV (Colorado Camper Van) top, which is a Fiberine top actually. It worked out great and was awesome in that van. I sure miss that part of that van!
It would be simple to do on a Sprinter or fixed top SMB but I don't see how you could do it on an SMB pop top.

I've used my cheap window AC in the penthouse enough times 'in anger' now to be quite happy with it. Keeps the whole van cool and dry, runs off of the Honda or shore power no problem. Did I mention cheap? Just saw the same AC in Target for $115.

Storage, setup/teardown, and requirement for PH to be up are the downsides; but those haven't turned out to be much of an issue for us:

Re: Coleman 9000 Low Profile AC

I just installed the coleman 9200 low profile in my van a week ago. Upgraded from a 5,000 btu unit I mounted in the side window. I don't know why I waited so long to do it. I don't have a pop top on the van so no issues there. I stay in the van 10 days a month rain or shine, summer or winter with no issues and now I am always as cool as I want to be in the van!!!!!!!!

Re: Coleman 9000 Low Profile AC

Here are several pictures of the Coleman 9200 btu low profile AC installed. It clears my 8' shop door by about 2". This model ac has two fans. The inside fan runs continuously and the outside fan only runs when the compressor is running. It is louder than the 5,000 btu window unit I had but not to objectionable when you get used to it.

Re: Coleman 9000 Low Profile AC

I frequently wonder about those over-the-cab AC units on reefer vans. Unsightly, but they must work pretty well when they're used in the seafood transportation business.
