SMB Propane Sportsmobile West

G'day,
I am having a propane system installed by SMB West and wonder if anyone can tell me what type of filler system is used on my new build? Here in Australia at Gas stations, the propane fill nozzle has a large screw on sleeve. Is this similar to what you have in the US.
Can somone post information about the tank filler design?

Sounds like what we use but it wouldn't surprise me if the dimensions varied slightly.

In fact - you probably use metric and we're still stuck in the middle ages, so they probably won't fit. Should be possible to get an adapter.

Re: SMB Propane Sportsmobile West

The tank fill valve has external 1-3/4" ACME threads. It is called an OPD valve (Overfill Protection Device). I think (did not check) it also has internal threads for the "old style" POL (Prest-O-Lite) type fitting which uses left hand threads.

I did a bit of Google research for Australia, and there may be two types of propane sold - autogas and BBQ gas, which have different burning properties. I would think the SMB should take BBQ gas. It looks like autogas in Australia uses the 1-3/4" OPD valve. It also looks like BBQ gas normally uses the POL valve, usually on portable tanks.

Re: SMB Propane Sportsmobile West

Doug, I'll be back there Thursday and can find out about that tank if you wish. Here is your van:

I like those bull bar mounted lights and am going to have to look into those.

Nice van you've got there and looks fantastic.

Re: SMB Propane Sportsmobile West

Yeah Herb I was wondering about those. Red & Blue??? I guess Doug's screen name says it all. I didn't know what that spring was on the rear leaf pack either???

Doug, got your message... the underside was clean. I thought it was a brand new van...no? I'll talk with them about the propane and grab a few more pics.

Re: SMB Propane Sportsmobile West

Herb, Dave, I have an Amber Emergency flashing lighting system installed, front and rear, so if I break down or assist, I can be seen clearly.

Vehicle is not new, has 230,000 miles, but will be like new when finished.
