2002 E250 side door adjustments?

I installed a roof rack on my 2002 e250 and am getting so much wind noise... No deflector on it and its made of pipe, so I understand I will be getting some noise...

I noticed when I shut my side door (two side doors, not slider) it doesnt seem that the doors latch very well, I can still push doors in and they flex together when I push them while they are closed...

Can this be adjusted?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, Before I made this post, I searched and came up with the same link...

I see other people have this issue... I added tape and the latch ripped it off the striker... I hit the striker a couple times and nothing...

So, I dunno!!!

I actually went outside and found a torx that would fit the strikers... I adjusted the side 60/40 strikers and then my cheapo torx but broke...

I will try to pick up a better set and do some more adjusting...

Re: 2002 E250 side door adjustments?

I played with this for a long time. Solution for me was to actually move the upper 40% door body mounted striker outboard a bit. Seems that creating a push -pull scenario worked best, rather than a tight top and tight bottom (which works well in other scenarios but not the van side doors ). And a really good Torx is mandatory, the small ones have to be really well made or they will break.

Re: 2002 E250 side door adjustments?

1der,

So instead of moving the striker "in" causing the door to "suck up" closer to the body, you say try moving out??

My alignment is good, just seems like the doors should be without movement while doors are closed??

Do you get any wind noise from moving the strikers outboard?

Thanks in advance!!

Re: 2002 E250 side door adjustments?

Exactly move it out a bit. No wind noise if done right. you just want that little bit pressure against the upper body mounted striker so it is countering the lower. You may have to slightly adjust the 60% door for perfect alignment. Remember that the 40% door is the "door post" for the 60%.

Just to be clear: The upper striker is what I moved out board. The lower stayed in to do the "sucking in"

Re: 2002 E250 side door adjustments?

I had to move my upper one out too. It was so tight it was normally only engaging the 1st stage latch, and I would get rattles.

I also ended up adjusting the hinges on the 40 door slightly as well, as the door wasn't quite flush with the body.
