Does the newer style OEM ford bumper fit on the older generation of vans?

I have an 02 E350 and I need a new bumper for it... But all the 02 bumpers at the local used car part dealers are either incredibly rusty or really banged up. There are quite a few of the newer style bumpers available for cheap and they're in much better condition.

Is there any reason the newer bumper won't work? Does anyone have a picture of the newer bumper on an older front end?

The bumper looked like its was a direct bolt up, however, it was quite forward projected such that it left a 2 to 3 inch gap between the rear edge of the bumper and the body sheet metal below the grill. It looked large enough to mount a winch in the space created.

On a 4wd or lifted van, it would probably look okay with a few mods to deal with the gap. On a 2wd, it would look very awkward.
