I have seen people ask if you can put a new style bumper on the early model vans..... Yes you can and the will bolt up the only thing is the look like this....
Of course you can modify the bumper brackets or make a filler piece, but just giving you an idea in the difference.

Thanks for posting that, it does confirm what others have said. I'm curious as to the fit on the sides as well but also what it is that makes them stick out so far: presumably the fittings on the bumper itself. Could they be easily shortened or modified to bring the bumper in closer?

The bumper lines up with the fender nicely, the newer vans just have a lager front end, grill and hood assembly.
