Looking for a contractor style trailer (non SMB related)

I'm looking for a trailer as the basis for a project, can't go into more detail but needs to be something like a contractor would use, a lot of side doors/compartments for tools etc, metal, pretty small.

eg 6 x 4 x 3' high maybe up to a foot or two bigger.

Ideally it would have space for a battery, generator and some large compressed gas tanks.

Needs to handle light off road (ie dirt roads).

I thought of starting with an army M116A2 and building it up with wood but it needs to be metal and weatherproof. I just can't find a trailer company that makes stuff like this. There has to be a company that makes trailers for job sites etc. that would fit the bill.

How about taking a pickup (or van, for that matter) with a utility body (open or enclosed) and just using the back of it, using the truck frame and modifying it into a trailer tongue?

Like the trucks that plumbers or HVAC contractors often have?

That's too much work.

Here's an illustration of what I am looking for:

(these guys don't make them anymore, I think - still researching)

Also like this:

These guys dropped that model and now make bigger ones I think

Craigslist always has these types of retro util-box trailers.

Well, you didn't mention that you didn't want to do much work!

But your link is exactly what I was talking about. That looks like it was once a full truck that somebody modified. Check with area junkyards, often they will have them. Some might even be willing to cut up the frame for you. A friend of mine made one years ago, and it was not as hard as you would think, assuming the junkyard pulls the engine, trans, cab, etc., and just gives you a frame and the utility body. I forget how he handle the rear end, but he used the existing axle somehow.

I'd search on "utility body trailer." A major brand is "Reading," so you could add that in (Reading, by the way, is an hour from my house, apropos of nothing).

No, they were purpose built as trailers, but it is just like a truck...

Reading is a dead end from what I can see. I've tried "contractor", "utility service", "utility" might give "utility body" a try. Thanks!

Have you seen this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5926

You could have a custom trailer exactly like you desire.

ANZAC, something like this: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/scz/cto/3934221763.html

He's asking $1000. As usual, I don't know the seller, never seen the item.

Good Luck,
Ray

Yeah, but they don't have the same cabinet doors etc used on the utility trailers. I don't mind paying for a custom build, but I want it to be from a place that is cranking a lot of them out, so I don't have to go through a big design exercise, just pick model B with options X and Y.
