I'm considering buying a teardrop offroad trailer e.g. Little Guy Rough Rider or Moby1 Extreme Terrain. Any comments about towing one of these behind the SMB? Do you think I need a brake option?
i would buy one that is wide enough so that you can see it in your rear mirror. Teardrops are generally pretty narrow and backing up can be a PITA if you can't see it.

Ron: I take friends hunting and fishing. I think it would be cool to have an extra private bedroom. Also my grand kids like to tag along to Sacramento and visit relatives=extra private space. Also outdoor cooking facility in the rear of the thing. They build some of them for off road. Extra gear space. Extra "doghouse" if I get in trouble.
The main reason I want a air conditioner is for my dog. With a teardrop I can drop my Honda 2000 in the tongue box and run my little 5000 btu air. (Really just thinking out loud.) Or how about putting a larger generator on the tongue to run a larger portable in the van???? RD
Sounds like you have already done your homework as far as teardrop manufacturers go, But, in case you might have missed one, check out AT trailers. Their quality is superb and they have IMHO the best most functional teardrop made. I did say IMHO! Great after purchase support also.
On the subject of trailer brakes if it is under 2000 lbs. it may not be required. But considering most SMB run at near or above GVWR I think you might want any extra braking you can get. When it's emergancy braking time it's too late to add trailer brakes.
