Re: WTB Sportsmobile.
So after some research I have narrowed down my search or should I say widened my search. I am open to SMB 1990 or newer but well taken care of. Recently looked and made an offer on an original owner 1992 but in perfect shape.
If you have 90's SMB but it's in great shape, send me your info, link, pictures or what not.

Re: WTB Sportsmobile.
I picked up a used 1998 a few years ago and it's been great. Don't be scared of the slightly older ones. In 1997 they improved/changed a few things, including the engine offerings, from the previous version.

Re: WTB Sportsmobile.
Well, after several failed offers I am finding out some very useful things. That each of these are slightly different than another. That I need to continue to be paticient which is not one of my qualities. This is the first time in my life where I have set a budget and it may not be available. Because of the limited quantity at any one given time I am considering purchasing an extended Chevy and sending it to CCV for one of the high tops. I really like that added interior headroom with the top down. I don't ever plan on parking it in the garage so that isn't a problem. I would be able to pick up a low mileage rig, add the top and be about where I would with an older SMB.
7k = 70k miles and 2001 Chev
7k = new top and canvas
$14k low miles new pop top.....
no camping gear....I wonder what it would cost outside of SMB to get some cabinets and bed built.

Re: WTB Sportsmobile.
We are building our own interior and depending on quality of materials it's not essentially saving us any money. What it is doing is allowing us to simplify every single system for a long overland journey. This simplification means there's a bit more work involved in most day to day tasks like using water, dumping gray water, cooking etc... If you are wanting one of the standard floor plans it may be best to wait it out. If you're ok with piecing it together yourself and spending more money over a longer period of time you may get a product you would enjoy more. Custom does not increase your return when selling, the opposite in most cases, something to consider.
You stated you didn't want any projects so scoring a great deal takes time, lots and lots of time. Even then you'll probably get scooped numerous times before you land a deal of the century. IIRC, there have been guys here for a couple of years before they got lucky and scored. Who knows, right place right time kind of thing.
Being a home builder I can get behind both options, waiting or piece mailing. Maybe chicken scratch out your floor plan and email the conversion specialists to get a ball park figure.

It's the old hurry up and wait...I am not good at that game but in this case I will stand here. Not quietly though...

I think we've all been in the same boat... but I think your goal is not unreasonable, you just have to be patient.. and ready to act quickly when it comes up.
I spent 6 months looking for my first van, and 5 months looking for the second.

Re: WTB Sportsmobile.
My wife and I briefly talked about selling our SMB since I recently purchased a passenger van that can double as a camper. Its a 95 RB30 design and its in great shape. I'll talk it over with her some more and if you're interested, I can give you more details.
