Wanted: SMB Ford budget up to 45k Ready to buy

Hello, my family and I are looking to buy a Ford 4x4 SMB. I would be willing to buy a 2WD but then my budget is 25k so I have enough to convert it to 4x4. I live in the PNW but am willing to fly to get the right one no problem as we are ready to buy.

• Must sleep 4 and seat at least 5 but more is ok
• Must have a penthouse top
• Would prefer kids rear seats be forward facing
• Would prefer a RB but if it's nice a EB would work

Thanks for helping us look. We can't wait to join the SMB community. Also any insights or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Here is an RB50 that was recently posted. Pretty bare bones and it doesn't have a fridge or outside water hookup.

Then there's this one that already has 4x4. Concensus seems that its priced a little high, but looks like a nice rig and its pretty loaded. Its an EB though so not sure if thats what you want.

Thanks for the reply! I will look into both.

The 4x4 v10 seems abit overpriced with those miles. Any thoughts?

keep looking for me

I personally think it's high but if that is what you are looking for it wouldn't hurt to talk to the owner. He may be open to offers.

It's a nice van, but my thoughts are to offer less, like $10k less.

Heres another EB50 on the sportsmobile site. It has an onboard generator, starcool AC, and a water heater. Doesn't mention a shower so not sure when you would use the water heater. Doesn't mention a heater either and I'm not sure where they are installed on the 50's. The penthouse looks like the paint is flaking/peeling which could be a strong negotiating point.

Re: Wanted: SMB Ford budget up to 45k Ready to buy

Ok, I see you're focused on the Fords, even though both the older 5.4 and V-10 can blow out or break off their spark plugs and lose header bolts, all at really high repair expenses (especially with Van bodies), and then there's also the lovely 6.0 diesel with all of its problems....

So how about this one (not mine):

04 SMB with 4X4 Quigley Convo, pop top, seats five, sleeps four, is within your budget ($37,500), has 6.0 V8 gasser, sink, microwave, Refrigerator, Stowaway porta potty,Power inverter power and water hook ups and Aluminess rear bumper with Spare tire and extra storage compartment attached.

I have a truck and a B+ with the Chevy 6.0 and can swear by them (not at them).

Just sayin

Re: Wanted: SMB Ford budget up to 45k Ready to buy

Plenty of examples of the Ford 5.4 and V10 not having problems, too. My 1998 5.4 has had no problems at all, and I just had the plugs replaced and they came out with no issues. My dad's previous work van was a 1999 with the 5.4 and 150,000 miles when he traded it, and had no serious issues. The 5.4 engines are generally considered to be a very good engine.

Wasn't there a recent thread on GM 6.0 engines and certain issues, too? I think if you look hard enough, any engine series can have recurring issues.
