2001 GMC Sportsmobile w/ PH, 2wd $23,500 ***SOLD***

Howdy all,

Purchased this SMB last June and dig255 drove it back from NC for me. As much as I love it, the wife does not and I can't seem to get any of the older kids interested. It has been a great rig, but has only been on two trips since I got it and I just can't justify hanging on to it if it isn't going to get used. I already have had two cash offers at $20,000, but figured I would put it out here and see if there was any interest closer to my asking price. Let me know if you have any questions!

I have some interest in this one.

Does anyone have any helpful opinion about the drivability/parking challenges of something with this type of verrrry loongggg wheelbase?

Would appreciate the input.

There was a discussion on a thread in the past month or so about this. Not sure what to search on, but try a few keywords and I'm sure you'll find it.

Honestly, I used this as a daily driver while my Subaru was in the shop getting the head gaskets done (insert joke about Subarus and head gaskets here)...other than not being able to fit (height) in the parking garage at work, I didn't find that it was that difficult to park. Granted, I drove a Suburban for quite some time and do have some experience piloting larger watercraft so that helps. lol

Re: 2001 GMC Sportsmobile w/ PH, 2wd $23,500

I have the same van, essentially. Mine is a '98 chevy 3500 EB and I find that parallel parking can be a little difficult. The turning radius, combined with the fact that you can't see out the sides very well is really the culprit. That said, I have no problem driving the van daily and putting it into some pretty tight spaces. I just installed a 7" display with a backup camera which I am sure will help make the parallel parking issue much less of one. You could always do the same and it really isn't difficult or expensive. If you're handy, you can do it yourself for about $200.00.

Did you ever look into that 4x4 conversion? Is it difficult on a '01 3500/5.7 GMC?

Does anyone know if it realistic at all to remove that toilet/shower?

Thanks,

BM

Re: 2001 GMC Sportsmobile w/ PH, 2wd $23,500

BM,

I called a couple of shops shortly after I got the van...Advanced in SLC declined to work on the van due to its age, but I got a quote from Boulder Offroad Vans in CO for the conversion (I recall it being around $16k) but I didn't have the funds due to purchasing a new home. If I was going to hold on to her, I would probably just put in a leveling kit, new differential (PowerTrax No Slip), remove the aluminum side step and size up the tires.

I can't really comment on removing the shower/toilet. I assume that it would be relatively straight forward, but there would likely be some welding involved to patch the floor where the piping goes to the black water tank. You might be able to ask one of the more mechanically inclined guys on the board for some insight?
