RIP Huell Howser

Huell Howser, host of the local California PBS show California's Gold, passed away Sunday at the age of 67.

My wife and I always got a kick out of his enthusiasm in just about everything he ever saw, and his genuine interest in everyone he ever interviewed. We learned a lot about countless areas of California, many of which we had never heard of. He brought a childlike innocence in a world overrun by negative 'reality' shows. We will miss him

Yep, I still watch those programs. It didn't say what happened to him. He just did a show in LaGrange a couple of years ago where one of the guys at work was able to participate in. Huell looked to be in great shape still.

Gonna miss him.

My favorite episodes were the Last Chance Canyon/Burro Schmidt Tunnel and the aqua car.

My wife and I saw his episode on the teardrop jamboree a number of times, and it certainly influenced our decision to get one.

I figured Heull had made it to the big time when he showed up on the Simpsons show.

RIP Huell.

Come on Mike, that wasn't Huell it was Howell Huser.

Here's an short, interesting interview with Huell that seems to put his personality in perspective.

Re: RIP Huell Howser

My favorite was when he visited the 4 corners of California. Imperial Beach was easy (I used to live there) but he had a heck of a time finding the north east corner. He was a true and unique TV "personality"!

Re: RIP Huell Howser

It's been said that people rarely appreciate what's in their own backyard, but I credit California's Gold and Huell Howser for inspiring me to buy a Sportsmobile and explore the incredible places and things in my home state. His passion and enthusiasm was admirable and will be missed.

If you are interested, the entire catalog of California's Gold shows can be viewed at http://blogs.chapman.edu/huell-howser-archives/
