Re: Poaching Redwood Trees in California
Wow, that's horrible and disgusting that someone would do that.

Re: Poaching Redwood Trees in California
whudda buncha ********. hope karma catches up with these people and smacks'em real hard.
we were leaving camp last weekend and drove by a camp someone had recently left. there was a 4-5' log 1.5-2' in diameter raging on fire with flames 4' high. they had removed the rocks around the pit to get the log going and the base of the fire was spreading. luckily it was right on the river and we had a 3 gallon bucket. the log must have been saturated with sap, cause a few buckets of water did nothing at all. we ended up rolling it into the river to extinguish. the same people had left garbage all over thier camp which we picked up. i just do not understand the mentality of these inconsiderate people. it makes me ill that im of the same species

Re: Poaching Redwood Trees in California
It's better than it used to be. There are still plenty of a-holes out there, thankfully fewer than there used to be. A few weeks ago I was taking the dogs for a walk in Joshua Tree and I saw a father tell his son to chase down a napkin that flew off the table. Education, good parenting and respect are the keys. Remember this commercial?

I'm with you! My boys, ages 3, 7 & 10, have grown up picking up anything we find on the trail.

Sounds like the same type of idiots that pushed over the hanging rocks a few years back, or that defaced the ancient giant pictograph in Chaco Canyon. Morons.

... or that shot the face off the Sphinx with artillery shells.
Christine gets out wherever we are, puts on the vinyl gloves, pulls a contractor trash bag out of the trasharoo, and picks up garbage for the duration of the time it takes me to get the rest of the set-up done. She never lacks trash to pick up. We haul home hundreds of pounds of trash each year.

Re: Poaching Redwood Trees in California
^^^ weve started doing the same it sucks we need to, but it sure makes those really nice clean spots when you dont have to do a pick up patrol after gettting there all that much more sweet.
last weekend the wife told me she was gonna pu around camp. i spotted a few cans right on the river bank and wandered over to grab them. once i got there i realized they were older cans. looked down on the bank right next to them and noticed some other really old trash that someone burried a long time ago and the river was washing away the bank exposing it. i decided to have a dig and get it all out the bank so it didnt just end up in the river. found 10 or so shasta cans (most rusted to nothing), a handful of olympia cans, plus a couple coors and bud cans. two michelob bottles, two unidentified random bottles, a propane tank, a egg carton, an old marlboro box, and something i couldnt id, but it reminds me of an old paint stripper. i have a buddy who collects old stuff, so i bagged it up to bring home for him to dig through.
did a little looking round the nets to try and figure out how old the stuff was. the shasta cans were steel with aluminum tops and bottoms. i dont ever remember cans being like that. other than the tallboy coors which was aluminum and steel like the shasta cans, the other beer cans were all aluminum but both beer and soda cans had pull tabs. from what i could find, im guessing this stuff is 45-50 years old. any one else wanna take a guess?
