Palomar Mountain State Park (Cleveland N.F.)

I was wondering if anyone had any firsthand experiences with Palomar Mountain State Park? I'm thinking about taking a long weekend trip to the area in the October timeframel, so I'm looking for a good place to stay. Boondocking recommendations for the area (Cleveland National Forest) would be appreciated too.

Had such a great time with my son finding obsidian and sunstones, that I'm thinking about a day or two at the tourmaline mine (fee digging through mine tailings) in that area.

thanks,
Herb

Not boon-docking but Fry Creek camp (primitive, no trailers) is preferable to me than Observatory campground (paved, family, trailers) across the road. Hiking distance to the observatory.

Thanks Pat, but unfortunately, my Excursion doesn't fall within the 15' maximum vehicle length, let alone if I'm towing my trailer which like you mentioned, isn't even allowed.

I'm assuming that 15 foot is a typo... A Mini Cooper is 12 and a 1/2 feet.

Used to hang glide off Mt. Palomar in early 70's.
