Shout out to guys like DaveB

Having been through two major windstorms in two months, I would just like to say thanks to all the people who just show up and go about their job during these events. I lost multiple sections of a large Pin Oak in the first storm, that damaged the transformer in the picture. The second storm resulted in a 12 hour power outage, they worked through the night to fix.

Actually it would be guys and girls that do these jobs. One of the two up in the lift was a female.

I agree! Funny story though. Water started seeping up from my meter recently, so I called the city utility dept. They were there within an hour and working away. Luckily the problem was on their side of the meter and not mine. I walked out to chat with them at one point and one of them said "Man, I wish you would've called this in later this afternoon!" I laughed and said, Oh, so you could put it off til morning? He said "No, so I could fix it on overtime!"

Re: Shout out to guys like DaveB

Thanks Greg. Most of the people just bitch, cry and moan that their power is out. I just got 60 hours of OT in just under 4 days during these storms and it kinda kicked my ass. It seems there is always a vehicle into a pole during a storm due to poor driving. I had lost a transmission line and while patrolling it came across this:

The guy was doing over 100 MPH and hit a flooded area of the road I hate coming up on injured people like that when nobody is on scene even though I'm an EMT and spent a large portion of my life as a firefighter. At least the CHP pulled up about the same time. Took an hour and a half to get him out and life flight him to the hospital after EMS arrived. Kudos to those guys and gals as well. The passenger was ejected and didn't have a scratch...

Hope you weren't too long without power. I does make you understand how much we rely on this stuff.

Kudos to all first responders whether they work for the police, fire, water, power, or other utility. They see stuff none of us can even imagine.
