Willow fire

Seems the Sierra's in my area can't get a break. I just hope they get a handle on this and it doesn't turn into something like the Rim fire. I've off roaded this area for several years and must say there are some really great trails around here, namely the Shuteye Peak Trail which I'd probably rate as the best I've ever done.
This fire is bad timing because the forecast is for temps to run close to 108+* over the next few days with moderate winds.

We'll have to see how it progresses, but the natural direction might take it up into the Central Camp and Shuteye Peak area because of the terrain. They said the fire is only 5% contained this afternoon.

Re: Willow fire

Bummer. Amazingly enough it's been a rather quiet fire season (except for Washington) for as big a drought the entire west is entrenched in. Hope is on the way for the southern Sierra in the form of El Nino if it pans out.

Re: Willow fire

Well I can hope for a elevated wet year. The fact is records are meant to be broke and none of these climate experts never have had much success rate just a poor guessing rate. If we get what they're saying, we'll be wishing for more reservoirs just to control flooding... something we need for the drought which we are lacking big time. Out of one pot and into the other maybe? At least the bass fishing will be good. In my life time this same drought/flooding has happened a few times and when the lakes go from empty to full the fishing is great.

Back on topic, just support all the efforts these firefighters are supplying. These folks bust their asses and I respect them. They earn their money and deserve more.

Re: Willow fire

I was going to camp on the mountain above Lee Vining to watch the Perseid Meteor shower a couple of day ago, but due to all the forest fires the sky was really obscured and you could smell the smoke. So I headed south to Westgard Pass and the sky was clear.

So how was the shower up there? Glad you found clear skies...
