4x4 Ducato & interesting expanding camper.

A couple of things I came across. The first a very interesting expanding camper, apparently to be added to a van later.

Then the new Dodge/Ducato might become available in 4WD.

Overall the thing is really impressive. I look at what SMB is doing (and charging for what they're doing!) and realize that if the Europeans ever get it together to bring their camper vans over here the market is likely to change quite fast and I suspect it won't bode well for SMB. The interiors the Euro's have had for decades are so much better designed, more versatile and better built than anything available here.

Mind you, this is a forum where the worship of the body on frame design, the peak of engineering in 1908, is still venerated as an object of sanctity so maybe SMB will still be able to sell a few of their interior conversions...

Re: 4x4 Ducato & interesting expanding camper.

Over many trips to Germany I've had the occasion to scope out the different van campers on offer there. There are many great designs and build quality is normally very good and at reasonable price points (compared with similar conversions on the same platforms here in the States). Whether Ducato, Sprinter or Transit based, I'd love to be able to buy something similar here in the USA.

Hi,

The Ducato 4x4 conversion was done by Dangel in France.

Here's a spec sheet for the "light version" with angles and clearances:

Viscous coupling and lots of other fancy stuff. I wonder when we'll see it on this side of the lake?

Regards,

Gavin
