Re: MAXTRAX -- Roof Mounting?
Geoff, I don't know why you couldn't use a couple of pieces of flat aluminum and use the locking mounts maxtrax sells. I'd think that the double sided tape others are using to hold their solar would work or bolt it to the side like the Aluminess rack is. I'd hate to see those fly off if I were following you on the highway...they're kind of heavy. Mine are attached to my ladders which I see you don't have.

Re: MAXTRAX -- Roof Mounting?
OK, here they are -- I went and made the purchase! These are my two new Maxtrax resting on my roof behind my solar panels. I'm thinking of running some kind of flat metal bars back from my solar panels mount (making use of their existing attachment to the roof) and connecting the MaxTrax to these new bars.
Don't worry, my glue/tape idea has been discarded :O

Re: MAXTRAX -- Roof Mounting?
OK, here's what I ended up doing. First, I placed a 1/2" rubber mat on my roof to prevent rattles & rubbing. The front side of the Maxtraxes are held in place by tucking under a pair of tabs (1/8" thick angle aluminum) I mounted on the rear side of my solar panels. The rear side of the Maxtraxes are tied down to a bar of angle aluminum I attached to two bolts that were already there on my roof. The distance between these repurposed bolts-ends and the solar panel happens to exactly match the width of the Maxtrax, so it's a snug fit.

Re: MAXTRAX -- Roof Mounting?
Looks nice Geoff, but that PH hardware is starting to show its age.

Attachment isn't showing in the quote... so this has been edited.

How did you mount the MaxTrax to your ladder? We have a RB so it might not work but we like it a lot.

Re: MAXTRAX -- Roof Mounting?
I attached my Maxtrax to my ladder, as can be seen in the picture below. I used 1" wide zip ties to mount them. The zip ties have lasted through a harsh winter and normal summer so far. I check them occasionally to make sure they are still in good shape.

But I'm sure you could still use compression rings to mount them on top of the ladder. Perhaps incorporate some kind of hinge to supply easy access to the ladder??? Or possibly utilize the side of the ladder and as a third point (provided a window isn't in the way) use a gutter mount and go sideways.
