Re: 4x4 Conversion

Rick,

I have a 2006 6.0L diesel that had the an IFS conversion done by Clydesdale. If I could do it over again I would go with a solid axle.

Re: 4x4 Conversion

I vote S&K even though I have SMB4x4, if I had it to do over it would be S&K (but I'd make them use an Atlas )

Re: 4x4 Conversion

We heavily modified a truck at a shop I used to work at, and he had a hell of a time getting it back across the border. They made him disassemble it and move it across to reassemble. I'm not sure if this was an isolated event? I would research thoroughly to avoid this or anything like it!

Re: 4x4 Conversion

Is the Canada issue only for Canadians that want to bring a vehicle back to Canada, or is this also a problem for American tourists who are taking a road trip through Canada for a bit with their modified van?

As long as you've never had a DUI, or any other criminal history, a US citizen with a passport can drive just about anything with a current license across the border.

Re: 4x4 Conversion

Rick,

I would check with Transport Canada and ICBC about licensing any modified vehicle in Canada before proceeding.

There is a 4X4 conversion shop in Kamloops, don't know anything about them or their name, but its worth a look. I think I saw them on the BC4X4 website.

Re: 4x4 Conversion

There are some Canadian-specific documentation and labeling requirements for vans completed by an aftermarket upfitter. I think all of the major converters will cover those requirements if you let them know when you start your order.

Oil Filter relocation

Well my conversion is almost complete, had it done locally by a mechanic who who will not compromise, everything was done first class. last problem, relocation of the oil filter, it is too close to the front drive shaft, any ideas?

Summit, NAPA, and others sell oil filter relocation kits. It basically consists of a cap with fittings to go over the current filter location, some hose, and a new oil filter mount which you can mount almost anywhere. back on the frame rail is probably a good option if you still have space.

Re: 4x4 Conversion

You might consider a duel filter system if you have a diesel. There are several companies that make them. Amsoil is what I have. Mike just posted on his new system
