Re: K&N intake for 5.4L gas

PS - on the highway intake temp stay within 5 degrees F on outside temp, so the airbox seems to seal against the hood pretty well. I still may add a small intake grill to the hood at some point though, to avoid the rest of the heat that is getting in.

Re: K&N intake for 5.4L gas

Don't do it. The v10 intake does fit, I have it installed on my e350 Quigley 4x4 class c rv. It didn't increase mileage or performance and makes a ton of noise. Hey it does look cool, but I drive with the hood closed so no one sees it. Waste of money for sure. Don't tell my wife I said that!

K&N intake for 5.4L gas

Haha that is funny Jim. The noise wouldn't bother me. I like the sound of a v8. I might talk to my local exhaust guy and see what he can do.

Re: K&N intake for 5.4L gas

We just installed the oiled K&N. After 1k + miles, our mileage is up 10% and power seems much improved. I am driving on the local Interstate with major hills rather than the flatter back road and handle my standard 55-60mph w/o going over 1800 rpm. Couldn't do that before. It took 2200 or more to climb the hills. Just finished a circuit through central Colorado's high country as part of that 10% mpg improvement. No noticeable noise increase (& we're both noise freaks) except for the lower rpms on hills. Our SMB is a V-10

Are these air intake systems street legal in California?

Re: K&N intake for 5.4L gas

There are a number of Calif legal intake systems, just make sure that they have a CARB (Calif Air Resources Board) number on them. I think most K&N systems are CARB approved.

With any filter, check on their filtering efficiency (how small of particles they will filter out). There are a number of filters out there that allow more air flow by sacrificing filtration efficiency.

My personal experience is that K&N's and dusty environments are not a good combination. They can cake up pretty quickly as the dust sticks to the oiled filtration material. If you're not in a dusty environment a K&N can be a good investment if you keep up on filter maintenance.

Re: K&N intake for 5.4L gas

Is it possible for someone to post a K&N or AFE intake mounted on a 5.4 please. I already have a cat back exhaust and the oiled K&N filter installed. Just wondering how the intake fits and if I should get one.
Thanks
Darryl

Yes the intake is the same as the V10.

However, the v8 is not restricted by the intake like the V10 is.

So no need to get the intake then.
Thanks
