I should have the work done in the next couple of weeks and will let you know how it goes. I have my fingers crossed.

Are they putting those on their 4x4 conversions? My SMB conversion came with Old Man Emu and I think everyone responding above (except Dave) have quigley or something other than SMB conversion. If I remember correctly you have an SMB conversion correct? Just curious to know if that is what they are calling out now instead of the Old Man Emu shocks I have currently.

Yes you are correct, I have a Sportsmobile 4x4 and they are currently using the Rancho 9000 noted above on current conversions.

Re: 2006 SMB 4x4 Shock Replacement

Man-o-man, I thought the Rancho 9000's were junk on the vans. I can't comment on the Old Man Emu as they were blown by the time I got my Deavers. I still have Rancho 9000's on the front and will change them as soon as I can make new mounts (e.g. not ever, but not because I like them).

By junk specifically I mean even turned up to 9 I did not like how they felt when trailering or flat towing my Jeep. By not liking how they felt I mean I thought I was going to die more than once when they weren't at 9, and 9 only made things tolerable.

Re: 2006 SMB 4x4 Shock Replacement

I have the Rancho 9000's. Even turned up to 9 the shocks are too soft, especially in the rear. It's kinda like a pregnant roller-skate on side to side rebound.

Re: 2006 SMB 4x4 Shock Replacement

The early SMB conversions had Rancho 9000's and my 2004 still has the originals on it at 60K miles. I don't have any opinions on them really as I keep the setting in the middle because I can never remember which way to turn it for highway or offroad. I knew at some point they switched to OME but did not know they switched back. Good to know and good luck in your decision.

Re: 2006 SMB 4x4 Shock Replacement

I also keep mine set on 9. Once I decided what setting I liked, I turned the lower rear shocks around so the dial faces the axle (So the dial is protected from rocks)

Re: 2006 SMB 4x4 Shock Replacement

My 2004 had Rancho 9000 shocks when new, and when it was time to replace them I got the custom-valved Old Man Emu shocks from Sportsmobile.
