Greg,

I'm expecting to pick up mine in a week or so from SMBWest, so I'd like the answer to your question, also. I don't have an exact date yet from Jonathan, as we had to order 17" wheels and tires, ( because of Ford's new brakes) and they aren't in yet. Also getting a black grill instead of the chrome. I can't wait !!!

Does the new 08's come with stock 17" rims, since the new brake system is too big for 16" stock?

Thanks, Ray

Ray,

Yes, the 2008 SMB 4x4 should be coming standard with 17in wheels due to the break upgrade not fitting 16in wheels.

Edie,

Have you checked on the status of your SMB lately?
WIll you really be picking it up in a week or so?

The reason I am asking the question is that I just heard today that the front axle is having to be redesigned by Dynatrak due to the suspension changes on the 2008.... and that is why my SMB has been languishing up on a rack for over a month now...

I have been assured that this redesign is no big deal.... but I hate being on the cutting edge of a new design.

Anyone know anything?

Has anyone taken delivery of a 2008 Ford SMB4x4 ?????

I also would also like to know the answer to your question as well.
I picked up a Ford 2008 E-series brochure today. It describes
'a revised front suspnsion system' with 'larger front and rear rotors and calipers' and '16" wheels' (standard option).
I was curious as to how SMB's 4x4 system would mess with the new 2008 Ford in terms of redesign? Need to upgrade the brakes since the 2008 brakes appears to be an improvement? SMB's learning curve in getting their 4x4 system to fit and work with the new 2008?
(whether smb did any field testing of their 4x4 on the 2008 Ford).

Greg,

I heard from Jonathan last week that my van should be ready around the 30th. They're just waiting for the wheels and tires to come in. The reason I said a week or so, I had some questions about a couple other minor items that might be added, which might make the wait a little longer.

Jonathan said earlier that they were to get the new Dynatrac front axle with the larger brakes in the first week of Jan.

That's all I know right now.

Edie,

You may want to check if you have not already...... 'cause my Van is not moving forward because it sounds like the redesign of the front axle is not completed yet.

I am still asking questions.

Greg,

If that should turn out to be the case, I would give them all the time they need to get it right. No pressure from me! I can wait as long as it takes. It would be a little "unsettling," however to be the very first to try out the new improvements! Maybe we'll hear from someone yet, who's already gotten their van. I have a feeling that everything will turn out just fine!

Curious? Per some federal regulation, if any, is SMB required to do 'test crash' or field testing (for lack of a better term) before installing/selling these new after market parts?

Greg and others,

Good news! I heard from Jonathan today that I'll be picking up my van the week of Feb 11th. He says "we have already been rolling vans off the line with the new axle/brake setup. The transition seems to be perfectly smooth."

He sent me some pictures that I'll pass on to you. I like the black grill! The 17" tires are Goodyear Wrangler "SilentArmor Technology" LT265/70R17,121R,E. A mud and snow tire, supposed to be the very best.

you can see some custom cabinets in the inside shots.

Good luck to all,

Edie
