285/75 16's or 305/70 16's - what should i get??

Pretty much settled on the Toyo M/T's and I'm torn as far as width. Do I stay w/ what I have - 285/75 16 or do I go a tad wider w/ the 305/70 16's?

FYI, even though I live here in the mtns of UT, snow isn't really a concern as it is not a winter rig, too much salt and lousy drivers out here. Mostly is a spring/summer/fall rig on FS roads w/ a bunch of washboard, w/ the very occsasional winter road trip up to Jackson Hole.

Will the 305's fit on a Quigley w/ the Baja 16x8 rims SMB spec's?

The 285's are rated at 3700+lbs while the 305's are 3500+lbs, both still higher than my current BFG AT's which are about 3400+lbs, so either should be an upgrade, cost is w/in a few $$

Thoughts anyone???

thanks

285 vs 305 tires

Good choice. I think Toyo M/Ts are much better than BFGs. I think both sizes are the same height... I would go with the 285s. I like the 3700 lbs rating.. I have 295 70 17 that have 3970 lbs.

For what it's worth, I think I have decided on going with 285 75 R 17's on my 4x4 conversion. oclv

well, I finally went for the Toyo MT's in the stock 285/75 16's. Man talk about BEEF! The van has a totally new look to it and the ride is on par w/ the BFG's and te noise really isnt any worse.

? regarding tire pressure - should I run the same as the D rated BFG AT's I took off? The MT's are 'E' rated...
