Unbeknownst to me, my 18 year old son drove it over the weekend to move a couch. He told the wife he couldn't believe how fast it was.

Not that I really want my 18 year old son to be seeing how fast the van can go.

So yeah, maybe just stick with the 3.73 for highway and see how it goes when it gets loaded down. Try a tune and see how that goes.

I've got a 5.4L 3.73's and 285/70-17's.....

I like the gas mileage

It does shift out of OD frequently when climbing grades, especially when using the cruise control, but so far I'm happy with the trade. The only thing I tow is a tiny motorcycle trailer.

There are a handful of other posts here discussing gearing and tire size....

I'll do a better search. Always good info here if you poke around.

As always, I greatly appreciate folks chiming in. I'm having a really hard time being patient while I wait my turn for upgrades. However, it gives me time to research and think things through.

Mine came from Quigley with LT285/70R17 tires and 3.73 gears. It's a 2007 so has the Torqshift 5 speed in it and it was constantly shifting in and out of overdrive, something that not only drove me nuts but also I believe is not very good for the tranny. On the advice of a 4x4 shop I had 4.56 gears installed. What a difference! Without a doubt the single best mod I've done to the van. The tranny will still shift out of overdrive but now it takes a pretty good grade to do it. Another great benefit was compression braking. Going down a steep hill with the 3.73s in low range low gear I still had to use lots of brake. With the 4.56 gears I rarely need to touch the brakes. My mileage with the 3.73 gears was 12 mpg. My mileage with the 4.56 gears? 12 mpg!

Hey guys I'm about to do a gear swap as well. I pull a 6000# RV with my 2014 E350 EB quigley V8 w/ 3.73 & 33 tires and it's just not enough. Any thoughts as to ratio?

I went with the SCT XCal 4 at the link below. I selected 87 economy, 87 towing, 87 performance, 91 economy and 91 performance. I leave it in the 87 performance daily since it seems the smoothest and most fun to drive.

1998-2014 E-Series 6.8L SCT X4 with Choice of 5 Star Custom Tunes 7015 - 5 Star Tuning

I mounted the display so I could see the data missing on the cluster. Why Ford chose to forgo a tach is still troubling to me!

I would like to choose at least one octane level that's common in other States. For those that have travel across different state line, what would be the octane level?
