TF does sell CARB-approved tanks, but they don't do any installations on the E-series vans. Only QuadVan and SMB are approved TF installers. They cannot sell retail. To maintain emissions compliance a larger Evap canister has to be installed (on newer vans, or on older vans a 2nd canister is added).

Yup big difference! 33" vs 34" tires which not all setups can handle the 34" or maybe even the 33" tire (fender clearance issues).

The V10's torque peak comes at a high 3500 rpm's. Its not a low end torquer but more of a scream it to get torque motor, IMO. I call it a circle track motor lol.

The guys that are using 4.10's or 3.73's are missing a lot of easy(er) driving.

I would recommend 4.56's for 33" and larger tires. 4.88 for 35's. It is so much easier on your motor and trans to be in the right rpm range (vs under the proper rpm's).
4.10's on 33"s is OK I suppose (my previous setup).

I have 4.56's on 295/70-17 (about a 33.5" tire) and would even like 4.88's more, for the added rpm's.
I am at apprx. 2200 rpm's @ 70 mph now.
I started at 285/70-17's and 4.10's. My transmission shifted back & forth a lot when I bumped up tire size to 295/70-17 with 4.10's.

Maybe I netted a half mile per gallon increase in fuel mileage. Maybe. 10-11 mpg vs 9-10 mpg previously.

Anybody looking for fuel mileage out of a V10 van or is on a shoestring budget, is in the wrong place.
It ain't cheap.

Shaggy, from my limited experience you should definitely think about 4.56 gearing. I got my 4x4 conversion done and went up to the 33" tires. Definitely lost some jump and the jury is still out on if sticking with 3.73 was the right decision, but it's a V10 and I don't plan on towing. A 5 star tuner is in my future for sure. But the van is still fast and does decent with overdrive.

If I were in your shoes I would be looking hard at 4.56 gears and a tuner.

But know that my experience is limited here. I do own a 5.4l Expedition, a 6.0l F250, and the 6.8l E350, and all have 3.73 gears. If I was towing, the 6.0l would win out every time.

Thanks for the reply Flux, I'm leaning towards 4.56. Wish I could find a thread where someone in my shoes did it......

I'm pretty sure member "TheLetterJ" went with 4.56. He's got a 5.4 with Camburg lift and he's running a 34" tire. He has a thread about a completely built rear end.

Here's the thread...

Three threads on gearing and tire sizes going on right now, jumping on this one because it's got the longest history.

My question is this. I have a 2013 V10 4X4 with 4.10 gear and 33" tires (BFG KO2 LT285/70R17), with standard SMB lift and front axle. I'm considering switching to 35" tires, primarily because they look proportional to the van. Yeah, it's just looks, but I like it. One thing I haven't seen discussed is how the larger tires affect wear and tear on the steering system and front end components, aside from whether they interfere in terms of fit. I've read that the larger tires can produce premature worn ball joints, worn wheel bearings and suspension wear. Those of you using larger tire sizes, have you had any issues with premature front end wear, since the larger mass and wider footprint add greater rolling resistance and weight on the machine. Particularly a question for Chris of Ujoint Offroad, since most of his conversions look like they incorporate massive rubber.

This, in addition to the issue whether the 4.10 gear ratio and 35" tire diameter are appropriately matched.

I upgraded my van from 3.73 to 4.56 gears and its by far the best mod I've done to this rig. And it's the V-10, not the V-8 so in your case the conversion would be even more beneficial. The surprising part to me was that my fuel mileage did not change. She got 12 mpg for the year I had the 3.73 gears and after several years with the 4.56 mileage is still 12 mpg. But SO much more responsive. These engines seem to thrive on RPM.
