There are more tire options in 18". I deliberated between 17 and 18 to fit the rotor and calipers on bigger brakes and went with 18". The main drawback is expense. I don't air down that often and there's still plenty of sidewall left on a 35" tire that I'm not sure it's that big a deal anyway.

revisiting this thread, I have some 35x12.5x17 BFG KO2 E2 Rated installed and they are 65PSI, 3195lb per tire. Wondering if I should be worried about anything. Also wondering a safe air down PSI for off road, sand, etc or even what highway PSI I should be running
