AC failure....

Driving up I5 last week for a quick overnighter I heard a light, low frequency tapping near the fire wall...
it got quieter, then louder, then stopped... just about the same time the AC quit working and we smelled coolant.
I figured it was a line tuning through and a simple replacement would handle it.
Nope.
Found this when we dug into it...

I think we found the problem.

If replacing the compressor cures all the A/C issues that's a good thing---somehwhat straight forward repair.

How many miles or years on it at the time it failed?

Just turned 100k
The original compressor and most of the factory AC system was replaced in 2020 at 77k or so.
It was an aftermarket compressor as well.

Garage
Be sure to change the condenser, drier and orifice tube as well since they are likely contaminated with debris from the failure. It would also be wise to flush the lines to and from those components to prevent premature failure of the new parts.
