ALLOWABLE WEIGHT FOR SALEM KROGER 4X4
The allowable front axle weight is 6000 lbs and the rear axle is 6084 for a total of 12,080 lbs as built by Salem Kroger as a 4x4. They will attach the re-rate tag to my SMB.

Re: ALLOWABLE WEIGHT FOR SALEM KROGER 4X4
The semi-floating rear axle on an E350 is rated at 6340#. The 6084# rating is from the stock 245/75-16 tires.
Too bad we don't have the full floater that is rated at 7800#.

Ford made the D70 full-float standard on 2009 Wagons with the gas motor. But for 2010 they went to a semi float D70, so I think it's also 7800 pounds. But on one site it indicated the full float can still be ordered.
Ford also allows you to order 7800# rear springs on your van by entering the option code for "high-mast antennae prep". I assume this also means it comes with the D70, since Ford has been putting it on some commercial extended vans (w/oit RV prep) since '06.
I don't get why Ford doesn't just put it on all the vans. It can't be that much more. Certainly not enough more to make people change their mind about buying. And it would simplify the supply chain process.
Luckily, mine also came with the D70 full float.

Re: ALLOWABLE WEIGHT FOR SALEM KROGER 4X4
Ed, The Lighthouse weighs 10,000 lb packed for a trip without me in it.
Mike, I had S K install a Dana 60 Heavy duty full floater rear axel with with a 4.30 gear ratio.
Tires: LT285/70/OR17E Toyo Open Country rated 3750 lb @ 80 psi
Looks like I need to check back with Salem Kroger to make sure my SMB gets rated correctly.

Re: ALLOWABLE WEIGHT FOR SALEM KROGER 4X4
Yeah, sounds like you might get a little more than that. If not, be sure to ask them exactly what the limiting factor is (tires, rims, axle, chassis, some bureaucratic detail where you need a CDL if it's rated higher...)

Re: ALLOWABLE WEIGHT FOR SALEM KROGER 4X4
Some of the limiting factors are tires, axles, springs, brakes.
There is no need for a CDL. Only issue in going over 10,000lb GVWR is when it gets towed. Legally you have to have a CDL to tow anything over a 10,000lb GVWR. I upgraded my AAA to RV towing so that is no longer an issue. I have been asking all the tow truck drivers that I see about towing the SMB. They would just call in one of the larger flat bed trucks and tow it on that. None of them seemed to think it was a problem at all.

Re: ALLOWABLE WEIGHT FOR SALEM KROGER 4X4
I got my re-rate weight tag from Salem Kroger:
Conversion Altered to 4x4
Salem Kroger MFG
FA Cap. 6,000 Lbs., LT 285/70R17E Tires
RA Cap. 7,800 Lbs., LT 285/70R17E Tires
GVWR 13,800 Lbs.
Job #1936
V.I.N. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Thanks, Mike, for the full float rear axle information in this thread the encouragement to get the tag.
